Project Overview
The U.S. Securities & Exchange Commission (SEC) renovated its headquarters building in downtown Washington, D.C. Management Alternatives (M/A) provided relocation management services for this 15-phase move of personnel, furniture and equipment into internal temporary swing space and back into SEC's newly renovated space.
A critical goal of this project was to minimize disruption to SEC headquarters operations throughout this yearlong renovation. M/A developed a comprehensive Occupancy Logistics Plan for each move to coordinate all move-related activities. To achieve the goal of minimal disruption to SEC operations, we determined organizational needs in advance for each phase. We worked closely with SEC's in-house Information Technology and Facilities groups to ensure that each organization was fully operational before the team left the site on Sunday evenings.
Protecting Every Asset
Logistical challenges included managing multiple moves and tracking people, furniture and equipment during ongoing construction in a fully occupied building. During some weekends, M/A managed two moves: one group moving to newly renovated space and the other to internal swing space. We worked closely with the Design Team to manage the reassignment of existing furniture and equipment and to coordinate the integration of new furniture product. We prepared Personnel Assignment Sequencing Plans for each phase of the renovation to monitor personnel and assets through the multiple moves. By utilizing our proprietary Asset Tracking Database (ATD), we were able to track the sequencing and the assignment of assets and equipment throughout each move.
M/A developed a Move Committee comprising members from each of the SEC organizations and led them through an extensive training program to educate staff on their responsibilities throughout the move process and enable them to assist their respective organizations in preparing for the move. We developed and issued the RFP for moving services, analyzed bids and hired the mover. In addition, we provided an on-site team to supervise each move phase, maintained a Post-Move Help Desk and compiled and resolved the Post-Move Punch List.
